Occupation: Para-educator/coach/Author
City & State: Baltimore, MD
Married to: Tierra Mason
Married for 1 year

At what age did you know you were ready to get married? 33

Why was marriage important to you? It was important to me because I felt that Tierra completed me and I wanted my kids and Tierras son to have balance.

What encouraging words would you give to help another man understand the importance of marriage?  I would say do it when you know you’re totally into your mate. Don’t do it for her parents, your parents or because you have kids. Do it because you feel she completes you and have your back through anything.

What is something that you wish someone would have shared with you about marriage that you can share to enlighten others? Honestly nothing we totally complete one another and set our grounds even before the I Do.

What would you say is a key component to a successful marriage? being open to change and willing to compromise.

What advice would you give to a woman about preparing to be a wife? Talk your husband before going to family and friends.

What are some things tNew Picture (7)hat you appreciate about your wife? I appreciate her being supportive and being a backbone for me. I also appreciate how she understands my life as a former athlete and philanthropist in helping people through my foundation.

India Arie wrote a song about a love in her life called complicated melody…she uses interesting analogies to describe a few of his characteristics. Use one of her examples to give an analogy of your wife or feel free to use one of your own. I see me and Tierra as John Legend’s song Ordinary people. We don’t require a lot just as long as we have fun and respect one another we’re good.

Bonus question: Do you think that marriage is 50/50? We do believe so for us. I value her opinion and thoughts. At the end of the day it’s all in her you see your marriage

I am so extremely happy for you both. I love the man that you have grown to be (a dedicated father to ALL of 5 your kids (I don’t believe in step children), a devoted son, a great husband/provider/soul mate and loyal friend. You and I have come a long way and were still going strong). I wish you both nothing but many wonderful years together. Tierra you both compliment each other so well.
